The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), also known as the federal stimulus bill, was signed into law on February 17, 2009. The law provides for additional funding for drinking water and water pollution control infrastructure projects and the National Clean Diesel Campaign in Ohio.
On June 24, Ohio EPA announced the first recipient of stimulus funding. Village of Buckeye Lake Receives Federal Stimulus Funds and Low-Interest Loan for Drinking Water Project. An online media kit with event photos and audio clips is available.
On June 8, Ohio EPA Director Chris Korleski announced that project lists have been revised for the ARRA funding, resulting in 65 drinking water projects in 52 communities and 267 water pollution control projects in 160 communities. U.S. EPA approved Ohio's plan detailing how ARRA monies would be used and how projects would be selected on May 27, 2009. Ohio EPA’s analysis of these factors resulted in changes to the initial draft list of proposed projects which was originally released on April 23, 2009. USDA Rural Development - Additional Stimulus Resources Available Small communities which are not on the Intended Use Plans for stimulus project funds for water infrastructure projects from the State Revolving Fund Programs administered by Ohio EPA are still able to receive stimulus funds from the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development.
Loans and grants to finance water and sewer projects for communities and non-profits with populations less than 10,000 are still available this year. Grant amounts are based on need, repayment ability and median household income. All stimulus funding will come from a national pool; to be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
