Ohio EPA is Recognized for Recycled Product Purchasing

Biodiesel Dodge Ram - photoBrenda Case, Don McNeal and Pat Evans from Ohio EPA’s Office of Fiscal Administration received an award from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources on Tuesday, September 21, at the quarterly State Purchasing Users’ Group meeting. At the Ohio Historical Society, Fiscal Administration staff received ODNR’s award for purchasing the most recycled products in state fiscal year ‘99.

This year marks the first presentation of the award for recycled product purchasing among state government agencies. Ohio EPA purchased approximately $271,175 in recycled-content products during the last fiscal year, second only to ODNR, who sponsored the award. A recycled-content product is an item that contains recovered materials that have been diverted from landfills and incinerators for another use.

State agencies choose recycled-content products from supplier catalogs that offer recovered-material products containing pre-consumer and post-consumer wastes. Pre-consumer materials, consisting of scrap, trimmings and overruns, are generated by manufacturers and product converters, and post-consumer materials are primarily the recyclables collected in commercial and residential recycling programs, such as office paper, cardboard, aluminum cans, plastics and metals.

For further information on recycled product purchasing by state agencies, see ODNR’s Web site at
